Blog Post On O'Neil Surfing

Blog Post On O'Neil Surfing

On Thursday me and the year 6, 7 and 8's went surfing. We went to the Ninety Mile where our Instructors were waiting. We met our Instructors Mark, Jack and E'en. We all got sorted into wet suit's and got a board and then headed off. We had to cross a river that was filled with seaweed and fish and I could feel it tickling my feet and leg's. Before we headed off we were taught how to stand up properly and keep our balance at the same time and also figuring out if you were goofy or normal. I found out I was normal. If you have your right leg at the back you are normal and if you have your left leg at the back you are goofy. After that we got strait in the water and started surfing. I caught some really big waves and started doing the floss and the Shaka on top of them! We stayed in the water for about Half an hour or a little bit more and then we sadly had to get out and go back. I really enjoyed after though because we played in a river and had a really good time. After we went and got ice cream and I got Orange Choc Chip and it was delicious. I will definitely go surfing again and will never forget the O'Neil Surfing experience.

Blog Post on Advent

Blog Post On Advent

In School we have been learning about Advent at the moment. I learn't that the word Advent is the Latin word for the word Adventus. What I love about Advent is the Candle Symbols and what they represent. Here is some Information about what Advent is and what the symbols are.

What is Advent:
Advent is the waiting and the preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ. It is the first season of the church year leading up to Christmas and the four Sundays.

What are the symbols:
The Symbols for Advent is 5 candles siting on a wreath. The candles are 3 Purple ones, 1 Pink candle, and 1 White candle. The Purple candles represent, Bethlehem, Prophecy, and Angel. The Pink represents Shepherd and the White represents Christ. They also represent Love, Peace, Joy, Hope and Christ.

Blog Post on Poem writing

Blog Post On Poem Writing

This week has been good so far. We have been learning about Poems at the moment. I have been learning how to write Haiku's and Acrostic Poems and they have been very fun to make up and write. I have written Haiku's about my pets, animals, the beach along with summer. I wrote an Acrostic poem about my Chicken Steve, Writing and Spring. I learn't that a Haiku starts with 5 syllables, then 7 and then 5 again. For example: Summer is coming, we like going to the beach, waves dancing away. I also learn't about the Acrostic poem and how it is one word going down and words beside a letter that explain what the topic is about. For example:

Stinking hot
Ultimate sun
Miraculous beaches
More swimming
Entertaining sunsets
Rock pools galore

Can't wait to learn more!

Blog Post on Knots

Blog Post On Knots By Poppy

This week we are learning about knots. I learn't the Figure 8 knot, the Half hitch, Square knot, Sheet knot, the Noose knot and the Slip knot. My favorite knot was the Square knot because it was challenging at first but then it got really easy once I practiced it lots and I even achieved to make a bracelet using the square knot! The hardest knot was probably the Sheet knot and the Noose knot. This was because the instructions were a bit hard to understand at first but once me and Piper read the instructions thoroughly we managed to complete the knot. The reason we are learning all these knots is because of camp so we know what we are more prepared. Can't wait for camp!

Here is a link to the website we used

See if you can learn the knots i did.

2018 Athletic Zones

2018 Athletic Zones By Poppy

This week has been great so far. I made it into the Athletic Zones and they were very fun. There was an amazing canteen there and they served awesome food. They did some Hot chips, Hot dogs and M&M's to along with a few Fizzy drinks! The events that I got into were Long Jump, and High Jump. Sadly I did not get into any of the events that I competed in but that was OK. My favorite event was probably the Long Jump because I got to show how fast and far I could jump. My score was around 2 meters I think. After all the events me and my friends went to get some chips and M&M's and they were delicious! While we were eating we were also watching the Shot put and Discuss. All of us cannot wait for next years Athletics.

Have you ever made it to the zones?

Blog Post On Saints Day

Blog Post On Saints Day

Every year on the first of November is Saints Day! This year we dressed up as our favorite Saint and I went as Saint Anastasia. She is one of the most famous female Saints. Saints Day is all about celebrating past and present Saints from all over NZ and the world. Saints day is also called Hallows Day and Feast of all Saints. What I loved about Saints day was going to Church and bringing a photo of one of our family members or friends that have passed on. I really enjoyed dressing up as Anastasia because she wears one of my favorite colours: Blue. I also got to carry a bible around to because Anastasia was carrying one in the photo i saw of her. I can't wait for next years Saints day and I hope we get to dress up like this year!

Have you ever celebrated Saints day!
