My new Matariki Words!

My New Matariki Words

Last week me and my class did this task from our Literacy Contract. We had to do some new words that we may not have known before and they were all in Maori and they related to Matariki. They were really challenging because I did not know what most of them mean't so we had to look them all up in the Maori dictionary, or if we could not find them there we would search them up. At the end we would all mark them and see what we got right and wrong. We also had to add five more Maori words related to Matariki, which was a little bit hard, but I enjoyed it a lot. I would love to do it again because it was really interesting.

What do you think was the hardest word and why?

Movie Study Galore!

Movie Study Galore!

At the moment in our class we are doing a task called Movie Study. It is where all of us come together and watch a certain movie and reflect on some questions related to it. It is really fun. It is now one of my favorite tasks to do. The movie that we are doing right now is called Soul Surfer. It is based on a true story of a champion surfer, Bethany Hamilton. She was busy Surfing on a beach by a reef when a massive Tiger Shark came up and bit off her arm. The rest of the story is based on how she recovers and see's that there are some things in life that are more important than Surfing.I love watching this movie and I can not wait for the next Task of our Movie Study.

Bully Free Week Poster

Bully Free Poster for Bully Free Week!

Last week it was Bully Free Week! It was all about people not getting bullied or people trying not to bully for a week. Here in New Zealand Bullying is sadly very common. Our task for the week was to create a poster and share it with everyone so people are aware of what is going on in New Zealand. My favorite part of making the poster was when I was able to gather all of the information that I needed to create the poster. When I finished the poster I had to give it some colour which was also one of my favorite parts. On Bully Free day my friends and I dressed up in pink to celebrate the day where there is no Bullying at all. Can't wait for the next Bully Free week next year!

Letter To Family: ANZAC

My ANZAC Letter To My Family

For our Literacy Contract this week we had to pretend we were an ANZAC Soldier, fighting in the War. The letter went like this:

Dear Family
I am in Gallipoli now and its dreadful. The people around me are amazing. They are just like me, fighting for freedom for our future generations. I cannot explain how dreadful it is here and how much I miss you. I can't hear anything as the bombs fly over me. I am starving, tired, and thirsty. Sleeping is horrific, its noisy and Worms, Rats, and Grubs keep crawling over me in the night. My thoughts of home give me strength, for I think about how safe you are away from here. Please take care of yourselves, I love you so much.

Love Soldier Dad.

This was, in my opinion, pretty hard to write because I have never experienced stuff like this before and I have no idea what it would be like fighting in the War. I think the best part was researching all of the things that soldiers had experienced in the War. This was one of my favorite tasks.

Australians at War Task

Australians at War By Poppy
For our ANZAC Booklet Tasks, we had to learn about the Australians who fought in the following wars: WW1, Vietnam War, Iraq-the second Gulf War, and the Korean War. I learnt a lot of things that I did not know. I learnt that Australia was part of the British Empire and they fought for them in WW1. My favourite part of the research was looking up stuff about the Vietnam War. This was interesting to me because I did not know anything about the Vietnam War and it was very interesting. What I disliked most was probably trying to find the correct websites, because some of them did not contain the right info that I needed. It was very interesting learning about this and I hope we are able to learn more about this in the future.

ANZAC Day Diamante Poem

ANZAC Day Words Of War By Poppy

This week we have been learning about ANZAC Day. We have little ANZAC booklets that have tasks for us to do. There was one called Words of War. Part of the task involved us looking for a poem about the ANZAC soldiers. The Poem that I chose was one called the Red Poppy and it went like this:

The Red Poppy is a symbol
To simply show we care
For all our fallen heroes
A loss we all equally share

The Red Poppy is a symbol
For to many we have lost
In every conflict of war
Their valour was at cost

The Red Poppy is a symbol
Wear it with pride for them
As each and every year goes by
We shall remember them.

It was a very moving and emotional poem that I really liked. My Favorite part of the poem was the end where is says 'We shall remember them'. The reason I used this poem was because it was very easy to work with the questions. I can't wait to celebrate ANZAC Day next year even though it is a sad time.

2019 Te Kahu

2019 Te Kahu

It is a new year for me at Pompallier and I am now a year 8 in Te Kahu class! My new teacher is called Mrs Dromgool and I am very excited to have her as my teacher. The learning this year is much more challenging for me but very fun at the same time! I have learnt lots of new Math like Equivalent Fractions, and Decimals. They have been very challenging and new but heaps of fun as well. We have also been on heaps of trips like EMR Snorkeling, and Moutiti Marae leadership camp. I have also been given the chance to take leadership and I got the role of being part of the SCT (Special Character Team) I am so excited. I also got the role of being a Disciple as well which should be heaps of fun. All of the senior classes ( Te Kahu, Kakapo, and Tui) are doing a very exciting project called Mahi Tahi. It is where all of the three classes go to Piwakawaka, and do some collaborative tasks with people that we do not know very well. So far we have recreated the Starry Night painting by Vincent Van Gogh, Popsicle Stick Catapults, Paper Chains and Paper Doll Chains for the people of Christchurch. I am really looking forward to this year and I hope we are able to do more exciting things for 2019!
